Differential reinforcement of an alternative behavior.Next, your supervisee will plan and implement one of the three aforementioned differential reinforcement procedures with a client after which, you will provide performance feedback. Your supervisees can apply these skills during the individual supervision meeting without a client, using the provided vignettes. During the group supervision meeting, your supervisees will learn the related differential reinforcement terminology as well as how to develop an effective differential schedule of reinforcement. Three differential reinforcement approaches are popular for challenging behavior reduction: (a) differential reinforcement of an alternative behavior, (b) differential reinforcement of other behavior, and (c) differential reinforcement of low rates of behavior. Often, differential reinforcement is applied by reinforcing some members of a response class while others are on extinction, but extinction is not a required component of differential reinforcement. Differential reinforcement is the reinforcement of some members of a response class, but not others.
